High Speed Train from Tampa to orlando gets funding!

President Obama on Thursday announced $1.25 billion of stimulus funding for a high-speed rail line stretching from Tampa to Orlando -- and he also promised to return to ride the train once it's finished.

"I'm excited," he said to a cheering crowd at the University of Tampa. "I'm going to come back down here and ride it."

The project has been under discussion for decades in Florida. The state in 2009 had originally applied for $2.6 billion in stimulus funds to back the project.

The initial phase of the plan -- linking downtown Tampa to the Orlando airport -- will be finished in 4 1/2 years if all goes well, said Ed Turanchik, president of the rail advocacy group ConnectUs.

"This will create one of the most dynamic regions in the world," he said. "This is probably one of the most advanced public works projects in America."

The second phase, connecting Orlando to Miami, is subject to funding and could be ready by 2017, said Turanchik.

Florida's Tampa-to-Orlando trains will reach a top speed of 150 mph, but average 86 mph. It's expected that the Tampa to Orlando trip will take passengers just 36 minutes. Eventually the system could reach speeds around 180 mph when the line is extended to Miami, but only if decisions are made now to spend more money on designs and equipment compatible with faster technology.

Orlando Magic Disappoint Fans!

Thursday night saw Orlando Magic playing in Miami.......but what a disappointment for the Magic fans! Final score of 104-86 to Miami may have been a bit of a surprise since The Magic have dominated the Sunshine State rivalry in recent years. Magic have won 12 of the last 14 meetings coming into Thursday. The only two Orlando losses in that span were by six points last January, then a single point on Nov. 25.

For Miami, Dwyane Wade had 25 points and seven assists, Michael Beasley added 22 points and the Miami Heat were in control throughout an easy victory over the Eastern Conference champions Orlando Magic.

For the Orlando Magic, Dwight Howard finished with 17 points and 14 rebounds, J.J. Redick scored 13 points, Mickael Pietrus added 12 and Vince Carter was scoreless for the game's first 21 minutes but finished with 10 points for Orlando.

Central Florida Vacation Rental Managers Association votes on new Board!

The CFVRMA held their Annual General Meeting on Thursday 17^th December at Providence Golf Club in Kissimmee. The Association provides support and information to Property Managers in the Orlando area and new members have to meet entry criteria in order to become members.

The new Board Executive is:

Treasurer – Keith Brady

The Grainger family recently arranged a vacation to visit with friends in Orlando who were celebrating a 50^th birthday. As there were several groups of friends joining the celebrations at different times over a 2 week period each group rented their own condo at Vista Cay & The Isles. Chris Grainger (dad) told us “The whole trip to Vista Cay in Orlando worked out really well. We each had our own space and privacy and were able to spend time with our own families and yet we were all staying at the same resort so had easy access to each other. The facilities at the resort were great. We enjoyed a BBQ at The Isles as a group and played on the putting green several times. My kids really enjoyed the pool and my son Liam improved his swimming skills no end. Because of the location of Vista Cay, right on Universal Blvd, so close to International Drive we had a few evenings out and easily got a cab back at little cost. The biggest problem was that the trip came to an end too quickly! We will be back!”
